Spent a couple of fairly uneventful days in Auckland just resting up after the mammoth amount of driving and sightseeing we had just done, I drove well over 7000kms in under 6 weeks! Was nice to be back in proper civilisation and a big city for all of about 5 minutes then we started missing the peace and quiet of the countryside and our little van! Staying in a grotty hostel in the red light district of Auckland, next to a nice establishment that has jelly bean wrestling!! Interesting as that sounded we didn’t check it out! Spent most of the next day wandering about aimlessly, seeing what Auckland had to offer. Went down to the waterfront which is huge and quite picturesque, had a look at the sky tower but didn’t go up it as we discovered we were going way over budget so needed to start cutting back costs dramatically! Had a nice walk round the Victoria Market the next day and through the student quarter by the Uni which was quite cool. Then it was off to the airport for our flight to Sydney, one country down several more to go! A huge monsoon came out of nowhere as we got to the airport which was quite fun to watch, luckily it had stopped by the time we were getting our flight!
